Chiang Rai and Chiang Khong - Two Rivers

Hello!  We are currently, March 2, in Kampot, Cambodia. Heading to Sihanoukville tomorrow for a night and on to Koh Rong island for three days, where we will be without an internet connection (!).  This post takes us back to a couple of the last parts of our Thailand travel (Feb. 15-17).

Took a boat from Thaton to Chiang Rai. Lots of children playing in the river. Lots of waving.

C waving (backwards) to the daily boat traveling upstream.  We were on a similar daily boat traveling downstream.

The clock tower in Chiang Rai, which has a sound and light spectacle on the hour every evening.
Loading our backpack on the roof for the bus ride to Chiang Khong. Chiang means town and mae means river.  The town is named for the Mekong  (Mae Khong) river that flows through it, and it borders Laos.

Looking out over the Mekong to Laos (from our hotel roof).  So close...but we decided not to go there this time around.
A wonderful dinner overlooking Laos.
The rising moon slid in and out of clouds.

In the bus back to Chiang Rai.  C was interested in the 40s-era electrical switches over the driver's head.  The windshield shrine seemed to cover all the bases for good luck on the road.

We met up with Jamie and Ana again on our last night in Chiang Rai.  Here are C, Ana, and Jamie shopping in the Night Market.

Buying fried roti (with banana, egg, and chocolate) from a Muslim vendor.
